Volunteer Opportunities
Heading 1
Our Animal Care Team
We rely on volunteers twice a day, everyday to ensure the needs of the pigs and other residents are always met. This includes being part of a rota so that the animals have routine and around the clock care.
Our daily volunteers feed the animals each morning and evening, make sure they have access to fresh water at all times and clean up any mess they have made! They replace bedding, wash up, care for any injuries and dispense medication if needed, and most importantly provide them with lots of tummy rubs and attention.
Do you want to volunteer?
Would you like to join our team of volunteers? We have all sorts of opportunities, from feeding and caring for the animals, to general repairs and maintenance, helping in our cafe, joining our rehoming team, help to run events, attend fairs, fundraising etc. All our roles are on a volunteer basis. If you would like to join our team, email us at pigsinthewood@yahoo.com to find out more..

Maintenance in the Wood
We have a dedicated team of volunteers who come along every weekend to do everything from building large projects like shelters, sheds, stages, walkways, to general maintenance such as painting, plumbing and replacing broken bolts, gates and fences (the pigs break a lot of things!) No prior skills are necessary to join the 'woodsmen' team, just a willingness to help and get stuck in.
On top of the regular weekly 'woodsmen' maintenance, we hold maintenance days at Pigs in the Wood from time to time which involves a lot of hard work from our team of volunteers. The work we carry out includes:
-
Building, repairing, cleaning and refurbishing the pig's shelters
-
Creating structures to aid our work
-
Clearing and creating safe paths for visitors
-
Painting and waterproofing
-
Improving water drainage
-
Preparing for winter months
-
Generally improving the environment for the pigs and other residents
The maintenance days are a great way to meet new people, be part of a team and to support a fantastic cause. There is always tasks that will suit all skill sets and anyone is welcome - even having someone to distract the pigs whilst work is carried out to keep them out of harms way is a big help!
Our next maintenance day is 10th & 11th June 2023 - 10am start.
Other Ways to Get Involved
There are many ways you can get involved and support Pigs in the Wood, even if you are not local to us. If you have a particular skill set in graphic design, web design, veterinary care or photography, please get in touch with us and let us know! Even if you simply have a love for pigs you can assist us at events or help to promote the sanctuary.

If you would like to join our other volunteers please email us at pigsinthewood@yahoo.com. Please note under 16 year olds must be accompanied by a responsible adult when volunteering.
